Bound for Gold continues New York Times bestselling author William Martin’s epic of American history with the further adventures of Boston rare-book dealer Peter Fallon and his girlfriend, Evangeline are headed to California, where their search for a lost journal takes them into the history of Gold Rush. The journal follows young James Spencer, of the Sagamore Mining Company.   As a trade book, City of Dreams could hardly have had better timing. The author aims at a sort of restricted comprehensiveness. City of Dreams does cover four centuries of New York immigration. However, Anbinder wisely emphasizes certain periods of activity, devoting almost two-thirds of his text to the long 19th century, and he concentrates on.

“City of Dreams is a rich, rewarding history of New York’s master narrative: the expansive story of the city’s immigrant past and present. It’s a necessary book for any reader — New Yorker or not — curious to know the astonishing sweep of transforming migrations that have made the city the polyglot extravaganza that it is.”/5().

Though a long book, City of Dreams: The Year Epic History of Immigrant New York is entertaining and informative throughout. It focuses on the largest immigrant groups from each era: the Dutch, English, and Scots in the pre-Revolutionary era; the Irish and Germans in the 19th century; the Italians and eastern European Jews in the early 20th /5.

Book 16 of – City of Dreams: A Novel of Nieuw Amsterdam and Early Manhattan by Beverly Swerling. This book was recommended by a friend - thank you Jessie @jessiemariedoesstuff.

City Of Dreams book It was a historical fiction saga tracing the familial ties of a brother and sister who emigrated to Nieuw Amsterdam before it became the city we know as New York.4/5.

When I finished the first novel, CITY OF DREAMS [ pages], I was excited that the saga continued in, CITY OF GLORY [ pages]. My only criticism was that the sexual dialogue was a bit too explicit in CITY OF DREAMS, yet this was corrected in the subsequent novels.

Despite this one flaw, I cannot overstate the magnificent writing by Ms Swerling/5(70). City of Dreams is peopled with memorable characters both beloved and unfamiliar, whose lives unfold in rich detail: the young man from the Caribbean who passed through New York on his way to becoming a Founding Father; the ten-year-old Angelo Siciliano, from Calabria, who transformed into Charles Atlas, bodybuilder; Dominican-born Oscar de la.

This City of Dreams is New York City, and obviously there are many familiar parts of the city as the setting for this story. The segments about the World Trade Center on 9/11 were just as hard to read now as similar ones were in This book is a Peter Fallon story; not all of Mr.

Martin's books are about this character.4/5. City of Dreams follows their lives and those of their descendants -- dedicated physicians and surgeons who will shape the future of medicine and the growing city.

Rich in historical and medical detail, City of Dreams is an enthralling tale by a master storyteller, set against the panorama of a young country's struggle for freedom.

City of Dreams is the first book in a trilogy about the life of Christ. Written like a thriller novel it also reads like a thriller novel, as it's an alternate history version of the story set in the present day. 'City of Dreams' is the story of the feud within the Gaikwad family, which erupts after an assassination attempt on a polarizing political figure. Blurring the lines between moral and immoral, in a struggle for power forms the core of this transfixing narrative.
